Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, Safaree, has made it clear that he is not embarrassed by the fact that their relationship didn’t work out.
On Thursday (December 8), the Brooklyn native, whose real name is Safaree Samuels, seemed to celebrate Nicki’s 40th birthday by posting a photo from when the two were dating to his Instagram story.
The photo, which was first shared by Nicki Minaj’s former rap group Hoodstar member Loustar and then shared again by The Source, shows the group in matching throwback jerseys during one of their first studio sessions.
Before re-posting the never-before-seen, never-before-archived movie to his Instagram story, Safaree jumped into the comments of The Source’s post and talked about how important that moment was to him.
He wrote, “An important part of history.” He then compared himself to Kanye West, a rapper and producer who is in trouble, and made it clear that he has no regrets about that time in his life.
“There’s nothing I would change about my past!!
said part of what Safaree wrote. “I’m like Kanye I love everybody.”
Safaree and Nicki Minaj were together from 2000 until 2014, when they broke up in a very bad way. During their nearly 15-year relationship, the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star is said to have worked on the “Super Freaky Girl” MC’s albums Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and The Pinkprint.

Safaree actually threatened to sue Nicki Minaj in 2015 for royalties from the above projects, which he said he was owed because he helped make the LPs.
Even though they broke up badly, which Safaree has blamed on Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, the rapper Meek Mill, in the past, Samuels has said more than once that Nicki was one of the best partners he has ever had. After an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club in January 2015, Safaree put an end to rumours that he was Nicki Minaj’s ghostwriter while they were together. He also went on a long Twitter rant about how thankful he was to have met her.
Samuels wrote on Twitter at the time, “I want to say one thing because people like to take BS and run with it.” “If anything about my interview made Nicki look bad, I’m sorry. I want people to know that she was the best thing that ever happened to me, is a great person inside and out, and is the most talented person I know. I never said that I wrote her raps, either.”
Nicki Minaj is “one of the best,” Safaree said, and he also said that she can make good projects on her own without his help.
“She is more than capable of writing an album without me!
,” he added. “She isn’t stupid, so it’s easy for smart people to come up with the clever things she says! I don’t know about other people, but I know that she is one of the best, if not the best, at writing flow and delivery. She has her own style, and I have mine. so stop saying that I write what she does! not true!!! She sits with a pen and paper and does it herself! Good luck.”
Since they were together for a long time, Safaree and Nicki Minaj have both moved on with their lives. Saree married his Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta co-star Erica Mena in 2019, but Mena filed for divorce in May 2021 while she was pregnant with their second child.
Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, married Kenneth “Zoo” Petty in October 2019, and in September 2020, she gave birth to their son Papa Bear.
