Yung Joc says that his ego was a big reason why he quit rapping

Big Bank, DJ Scream, and Baby Jade sat down with serial entrepreneur Yung Joc on today’s (Feb. 23) episode of the “Big Facts” podcast. The legendary trio had a very lively conversation with the Atlanta native about many things, like how he went from rapping to reality TV and how being married keeps him grounded. Many of the relationships behind the scenes that affected his music career were also made clear.

His song “It’s Going Down” was a huge hit on the radio and in clubs in the early 2000s. We’ve also seen Yung Joc on the hit reality show “Love and Hip Hop” for almost 10 years. On “Big Facts,” he said that his performance with Diddy at the BET Awards was one of the best parts of his rapping career, saying, “That was my moment, it was live. When I leave the stage, I’m hugging Mary J. Blige and smelling her expensive perfume. But the businessman said that he does more producing than rapping these days because he doesn’t like rapping as much as he used to. “When you live out some dreams, you realize you have other dreams,” Joc said. He told the crew that one of the main reasons he switched to reality TV was to make sure that people could still see him. He said, “I wanted to make sure that people could still see me and see my wit and character.” The syndicated radio host also likes being able to talk to a lot of people through his show, “The Streetz Morning Takeover,” which he co-hosts with Shawty Shawty and Mz. Shyneka. “Radio gave me the chance to talk to people every day and connect with them. This voice is my tool, so why not use it?”

On reality shows, Joc’s troubled love life has been one of the most important parts of his story. That changed when the actor brought his then-girlfriend, who is now his wife, Kendra Robinson, onto the eighth season of “Love and Hip Hop.” Robinson is a criminal defense lawyer who wasn’t easily swayed by Joc’s charm and status. She is also someone he thinks of as an anchor for him. Big Bank asked the beloved entertainer how he knew he was ready to be married for a second time. “Man, you become so powerful when you stop thinking about all the bad stuff going on in the world and find something that grounds you,” Joc said. Their on-screen relationship was a mess because there was drama and rumors that spread about them. However, building and maintaining trust was of the utmost importance to the father of six.

The “Big Facts” crew was also very interested in the “who and what” of Yung Joc’s music career. When talking about why some business meetings didn’t go as planned, the names of former managers Big Block and Rico Brooks, 2 Chainz, Pierre “P” Thomas of QC, and a few others came up. Without putting anyone at fault, he told stories about how some deals didn’t work out as planned, how the money got weird in some situations, and how relationships got worse. He made it clear that there is no bad blood between anyone, but he did say that his ego and sensitive feelings were a big part of why he quit rapping as a whole.

Furthermore, DJ Scream, Big Bank, and Baby Jade couldn’t conduct this interview without mentioning Yung Joc’s various viral moments. For example, when Joc changed his hairstyle to a low blonde cut, and the media compared his look to comedian Luenell; as well as 42 Dugg’s infamous “Before I go broke like Joc” lyric on “We Paid.” As they talked about each event, the successful radio host was very lighthearted and said that he doesn’t care what people think of him and doesn’t take anything personally.

As the successful entrepreneur keeps adding to his list of successful businesses, he told Big Bank that his goal in life is to inspire those who want to be successful. “Because there are a lot of n**gas who have already taken off but can’t take off again. Everything I did worked out well. That’s me humbly speaking.”
