Love & Hip Hop is getting more shows. After Love & Hip Hop: New York debuted in 2011, it led to spinoffs set in Atlanta, Hollywood, and Miami. Now, the franchise is growing again, and this time it’s going international. Love & Hip Hop: South Africa, the newest season of the hit reality show, has been released by MTV Africa.

The first episode of the show aired on MTV Africa on Monday, February 27. Similar to the U.S. version and its spin-offs, the series follows a group of hip-hop acts from the country as they try to balance their careers, relationships, and family lives while navigating the hip-hop music scene. There are 13 episodes in the first season.

Okayafrica says that the South African version of the show will feature recording artist and record producer Da L.E.S, also known as “The North God,” award-winning hip hop star Gigi Lamayne, “Utatakho” hitmaker Yanga Chief, and South African Music Award winner for Best Hip Hop Album Shane Eagle and his leading lady Nicole “Nikki” Swartz. South African recording artist Fifi Cooper (also known as “Motswako First Lady”), who has won many awards, Money Badoo, who is 26 years old, and rapper, singer, and songwriter J Molley are also in the show.

Love & Hip Hop: South Africa is the first time the reality show has ever been filmed outside of the United States. On March 6, 2011, Love & Hip Hop: New York started the franchise. The first season did well, so the next year, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta was added. 2014 brought Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, and 2018 brought Love & Hip Hop: Miami.
Other spin-offs, like Chrissy & Mr. Jones, have also been added to the series. K. Michelle: My Life, Stevie J. and Joseline: Go Hollywood, Leave It to Stevie, Remy & Papoose: Meet the Mackies, and Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition. There are also several specials in the Love & Hip Hop series, such as Love & Hip Hop Atlanta: Dirty Little Secrets, 40 Greatest Love & Hip Hop Moments, Love & Hip Hop Hollywood: Dirty Little Secrets, and Love & Hip Hop New York: Dirty Little Secrets. Hollywood: Ray J & Princess’s Labor of Love, Love & Hip Hop: It’s a Love Thing, Love & Hip Hop: Lineage to Legacy, and Love & Hip Hop: Where Are They Now?, among many others.
